Cyclamen in any form are the stalwart of the winter garden especially in colder Highveld winters. Flowering outdoors in mostly shady cool spots but Cyclamen prefer bright light indoors but not direct heat, they will last for anywhere up to three months in flower.

As shade loving plants in South Africa, they are bought in flower as instant colour. They are a bulb or more specifically, a corm and will grow as a perennial dying back in summer and coming back in next winter. Most gardeners grow them as a seasonal show and plant fresh plants every year. As a bulb they can be susceptible to overwatering and you need to make sure that they are also not planted too deep and this can cause the bulb to rot.

Garden Cyclamen

The most classic of all, Garden Cyclamen is one of our all-time winter favourites for colour with their large flowers and robust leaves. As shade-loving plants they are great on the patio or in a mostly shady spot protected from frost, flowering for months this time of the year.

Their upside-down flowers, start right at the base and then stretch up like bird wings in shades of pink through purple.

Keep them slightly on the dry side and feed every alternate watering with Multifeed Flowergro to promote even more flowers.

Petticoat Cyclamen

Each bloom of the Petticoat Cyclamen opens from an elegant upright bud into delicately reflexed petals, creating a distinctive petticoat effect. As the flowers mature, they open into star-shaped blooms with subtle shifts in tone, adding to their appeal.

Perfect for cooler conditions, Petticoat Cyclamen are ideal for containers, flowering continuously from late autumn through spring.

Easy to grow in well-drained soil, with regular feeding and deadheading Petticoat Cyclamen, is the “must have plant” with her long-lasting, eye-catching winter show.

Mini Cyclamen

The Cyclamini’s as we like to call them are smaller varieties perfect for planting up as a ground cover but pure magic indoors as a desk buddy or windowsill companion.
Allow them to dry out between watering and then give them a good soak to keep them fresh. Cyclamen can flower for three months so a regular deadheading will make sure the blooms keep coming.
