It may be autumn but it’s the busiest time in the garden for sure. Less practical and chore orientated than spring, autumn is playtime where you get to plant make changes and believe in tomorrow by planting seeds, bulbs and more. We’ve also boosted all the gardens here at Eckards with some BioGanic and BioOcean to get the new season greens going, but also to strengthen the shrubs to handle the winter extremes a few months away.
Don’t Miss our 4 Day Houseplant Sale
Indoor Plants or House Plants as the young plant fans call it are an essential part of bringing good energy to a home. As a desk buddy, for homework or to be your buddy when working from home or the office, a plant on the desk has proven to improve productivity as well as mood. Many of our local estate agents will also tell you a house with indoor plants also has more appeal to buyers even though we all know as plant parents if you move you’re taking them with!

Easter Gardening with your Family
We are passionate about gardening and the changing seasons always inspires us, we hope it does you as well! Autumn is finally here and it’s a great time to plan and plant in the garden. We love the change that it brings particularly a good cleanup of all the tired summer perennials and bedding plants. Autumn gardening is all about the family as it’s a time of the year to teach kids about the environment and for families to get together over the holidays and Easter just a few weeks away.
Sow some seeds of colour: Nature plants the most seeds in autumn and we should follow her lead. Masses of spring colour will come from seeds, sown over the next two months. Even though instant satisfaction rules there are some things that just have to be seed grown. Colour is also made easy with sowing time for Sweet Peas, Namaqualand Daisies, Bokbaai Vygies and more all from seed to give you a riot of colour at a fraction of the cost of planting seedlings.
We love the fragrance that Sweet Peas bring to the garden. Planted know they need a bit more care that most but the reward is so awesome and grown from seed is the best way to get loads of flowers. To grow the best Sweet Peas; find our handy guide here.
It’s also time to pick up a trick to save money and plant the next crop of veggies from seed, particularly Onions and Carrots.
See you this weekend at Eckards for our Happy Houseplant Sale!!
